September 3, 2026 Inseason Action #28 in Ocean Salmon Fisheries, South of Cape Falcon (Oregon Recreational) NOAA Fisheries has taken inseason action in the recreational salmon fisheries south of Cape Falcon. Inseason Action #28 Effective at 12:01 a.m., Friday September 4, 2026, reduce the coho quota for the Cape Falcon to Humbug Mountain ocean recreational non-mark selective coho fishery by 1,800 from 27,500 to 25,700. The quota is being adjusted on an impact neutral basis to account for an overage accrued during the prior South of Falcon ocean recreational mark-selective coho fishery. September 3, 2026 Correcting Amendment for 2026 Salmon Management Measures Affecting the recreational salmon fishery in the Monterey and San Francisco management areas NOAA Fisheries published a final rule to implement a correction to previously published management measures for the recreational ocean salmon fishery in the area from Point Arena to the United States/Mexico border. This correcting amendment corrects an error in the May 19, 2026, rule by adding the language “all salmon except coho salmon, two salmon per day” to specify the bag limit for the recreational ocean salmon fisheries in the area from Pigeon Point, California to the United States/Mexico border (Monterey management area). In addition, it clarifies the applicability of bag limits and early 2027 management measures in the area from Point Arena to Pigeon Point (San Francisco). The correcting amendment is effective September 3, 2026, and is available on the Federal Register website. Inseason Action #27 Effective 12:01 a.m. Friday, September 4, 2026, the ocean recreational fishery in the area between Cape Falcon and Leadbetter Point (Columbia River subarea) is open to fishing for salmon. Two salmon per day. All coho salmon must be marked with a healed adipose fin clip. Chinook salmon may not be retained. Possession of Chinook salmon onboard a vessel is prohibited. Columbia River Control Zone is closed. That portion of the Columbia River subarea north of 46 o 15’ N and east of 124 o 08.667’ W is closed to fishing for salmon. Effective 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2026, the ocean recreational fishery in the area between Cape Falcon and Leadbetter Point (Columbia River subarea) is closed to fishing for salmon. Possession of salmon on board a vessel is prohibited in the Columbia River subarea. August 25, 2026 Inseason Action #25-#26 in Ocean Salmon Fisheries, North of Cape Falcon (Recreational & Commercial) NOAA Fisheries has taken inseason action in the ocean recreational and commercial salmon fisheries north of Cape Falcon. Inseason Action #25 Effective 12:01 a.m., Wednesday August 26, 2026, for the recreational fishery in the area between the United States/Canada border and Cape Alava (Neah Bay subarea), it is unlawful to fish for, possess or land salmon in the subarea, except fish that were lawfully retained in Canadian waters or in Washington waters east of the Sekiu River may be transported through the subarea to be landed in a port in the Neah Bay subarea. Inseason Action #26 Effective 12:01 a.m., Thursday August 27, 2026, the landing and possession limit for the commercial ocean salmon troll fishery in the area between the United States/Canada border and Cape Falcon is 5 Chinook salmon and 50 marked coho salmon per vessel per landing week (Thursday-Wednesday). On August 19, 2026, federal fishery managers took inseason action to close the summer commercial ocean salmon fishing season off California. The 83,000 Chinook salmon Summer Harvest Limit has been attained, and the summer commercial season has been closed. Federal fishery managers also took action to modify the recreational spring/summer ocean salmon fishing season, adjusting the closure date to August 24, 2026 in the San Francisco Management Area. The last day of the recreational spring/summer ocean salmon season will be August 23, 2026 in this area.

The Klamath Management Zone (ocean waters between the California/Oregon border and 40º10′ N. latitude) is now closed for recreational ocean salmon fishing. The Fort Bragg Management Area (ocean waters between 40º10′ N. latitude and Point Arena) will open August 1 for recreational ocean salmon fishing, and continue through August 9. The remainder of the August dates previously scheduled for the Fort Bragg Management Area are now closed. The San Francisco and Monterey management areas will open for recreational salmon fishing from August 1 through August 31 or until the harvest guidelines for Chinook salmon are met, whichever is earlier. There have been no changes to the recreational fall ocean salmon season that begins in September.
